Nonlinear Analysis – Designing with Elastomers

Advanced Polymer Products for Defense

All physical processes are inherently nonlinear to a certain extent. Polymer sealing applications commonly exhibit either large deformations and/or inelastic material behaviour. Failure to account for nonlinear behaviour can lead to product failures and unnecessary costs.

FEA software simulates the behaviour of a real component with a mathematical model that includes the physical conditions in which it operates. The finite element model is then analysed by a finite element analysis solver, which calculates data reflecting the design behaviour to the applied boundary conditions, and can help to identify weaknesses or potential failures in the design.

We have our own in-house material testing capabilities to create the material data required to feed the mathematical model including:

  • Tensile and Compression testing
  • Micro Hardness Testing [IRHD]
